Small Makeup Vanity Ideas – Today we’re in studio and I’ve got some great ideas to turn a simple writing desk into a beautiful vanity table. Let’s get started. I found inspiration for this project while we were shopping at the Hudson’s Bay. I found these at the Clinique counter. They’re lip gloss! And their packaging is covered in Marimekko prints. Marimekko is a Finnish design house, renowned for their poppy prints and colours. You probably recognize it from clothing, and bags, and home decor items. They’re so graphic and colourful, they’re the perfect jumping off point for this entire set-up. My first idea was to transform the shelf into a jewelry cushion.
I cut a piece of upholstery foam, which I glued right to the shelf with some spray glue, and I got this pretty pink fabric to upholster the cushion. Once in place, it is a great spot for all your favourite jewelry pieces. And it’s the perfect spot for earrings, because you can hook them right into the foam. They’re not going to go anywhere. And when you look at it through the glass, it’s like you have your own little jewelry shop. Next, I got an inexpensive frame, popped out the mat, and replaced it with a piece of fabric that has a great graphic print on it. This once picture frame has now been transformed into a pretty and practical tray.
And lastly, I needed a solution to keep the brushes close at hand and upright. I used a Marimekko vessel with some terrarium substrate and that was the perfect solution. It’s a bowl with sand, guys. It’s a bowl with sand. But it works! Using a picture frame as a tray was a great idea in this case because the table is very narrow, and it’s hard to find trays that are that small. Okay, which one do we go with? Oh, Coconut Pop! I love these. Something dark pink? This one is Watermelon Pop. Love it. I’m keeping this one. I love how this vanity table turned out. Did you know Marimekko was created to bring colour and happiness into people’s everyday lives? And this has totally done it for me.
